Discover the flavors of Granada and the local life on an off-the-beaten-path market tour in the old town of Granada. Here you can see how locals live and shop and go about their daily lives in a relaxed Spanish way. It is said if you want to feel the true sense of a city a stroll around its market is a great way to feel like a local.
You would taste your way along different stalls and learn about the most typical and traditional Spanish delights. We will start off with a walk through the old town and cover 2000 years of history all from ancient tribes to Muslims and Christians. We will pass by the second biggest Cathedral in Spain where some of the most important European kings, the Spanish Kings,are buried.
To warm up we savor some hot churro and chocolate that make not only the little ones happy but even more the adults. Then, we would stop to chat with a family-run shop and taste first quality Iberian ham, local cheese from Trevelez, probably the highest mountain village in the Sierra Nevada in Spain as well as Spanish gourmet products such as Chorizo, the spicy sausage, Lomo, Salsichon…
In Granda is all about Alhambra! You might have visited Alhambra previous to your tour. So now, you have the chance to taste it too! Alhambra is one of the most appreciated beers in Spain. e will have We will pass by vegetable stands. Beer is not your thing? Then we will taste a nice Spanish red or white wine.
Next, we will pass by the vegetable stands and learn about “costa tropical”, The Granadine main hub of agriculture for tropical fruits because of the Mediterranean climate Granada’s coast enjoys.
The next stop will be at an olive stall to go on an infinite journey to the history and roots of this liquid oil and find out its importance in Spanish cuisine.
We will finish the tour with a typical artisanal sweet called Piononos to leave the tour with a sweet taste.

The market is not very nice as it is modern but it was a great tour since it really takes you away from the touristy areas. The information our guide shared with us was great to give us an idea of the Spanish cuisine and culture and how it has evolved. The olives were delicious and we ended up buying some. The walk in the old town was also nice to grasp some history of Granada while hunting local bites.

we booked 2 food tours with Not Just a Tourist and they were all very different. The market tour covered the old town of the part with 4 stops at 4 different places to sample local products. It was very relaxed and just nice to see the locals go about their daily lives. We had delicious ham, old cheese, typical dry bread from the area, chorizo, olives, local beer and a tasty sweet from the Arab times. Our guide explained the origin of each food so that it was a nice tour on history and cuisine. Our tapas tour was a greas addition since it included a lot of warm tapas too and took us to the old Muslim neighborhood with a little bit of hike up the hill. We tried 4 different tapas, beer, wine and sherry and enjoyed it very much.

I highly recommend this food tour at the beginning of your stay in Granada, the tour includes a short walk in the old town where we were given a brief history of this beautiful city and then we headed to the local market to stop at 4 different stalls and try traditional products. The ham was very tasty and the cheese was the best I had so far.

my kids loved the churros with chocolate stop while my husband and I enjoyed a lot the quality ham and sausages we tried. We also stopped at an olive stall where the owner explained all different varieties. The beer Alhambra was by far the best beer we had so far in Spain and it is like drinking its old history itself. I highly recommend this food tour.

The market tour in Granada is a great way for us to start our stay in Granada. It was very informative and we tried 10 different types of food from salty to sweet. It felt a bit weird to have beer and wine at 11am but seeing that this is what all locals do too we felt blended in.
