More information
High up in the Sierra Nevada mountains sits a splattering of small mountain villages. The land of bandits, peasants and hopping mountain goats. We will venture up into the hills and spend the day exploring three unique towns that are perfectly framed by Mulhacen, Spain’s highest peak.
As the last place in Spain where the Muslim populations were able to maintain their faith, the Alpujarras is also home to the final rebellion and battle between the two religions. Although it led it to their final expulsion their presence is still felt on the mountain edge.
Witness this incredible history, so evident in the traditional way of life of its inhabitants. Based on agriculture and manufacturing, don’t be surprised by the fruits drying on rooftops or women at work on the slopes.
Step into the unique ecosystem of rare wildlife, snow-capped mountains and an oasis of green. The perfect environment for delectable natural treats, harvested only with somewhat dated methods and devoured as part of unique Mediterranean gastronomy. For lunch, as your meal roasts behind the old stone walls, relax on the terrace and take in the scenery – it’s a shame it’s not edible (lunch not included).
We have handpicked our three favorite villages in the region to give you the perfect insight. In Pampaneira visit the local vendors and try the sweetest of honey, home-made wine and rich chocolate! Find the church of Bubión and delve into its history before reaching Capileria at the mountain’s peak. A village with a view and an array of unkempt yet inviting white-washed stone houses.
We will also stop at a local artisanal cheese and jam factory where you can chat to the friendly owner, learn about the local products in the area, taste and purchase first quality home-made products.
As you breathe the fresh mountain air, forget the commotion and feel part of this harmonious mountain life.

Miguel was our guide and he was fantastic. We visited 3 mountain villages in total, had a short hike to a fountain and enjoyed amazing views of the highest peak in Spain. Highly recommendable.

We wanted to explore the countryside around Granda and this day trip seemed like a great option. Our guide was very knowledgeable and stopped at different places so that we could try the local honey and buy specialities and handicraft from the area. The region is so gorgeous. The restaurant we went to had amazing food and nice local vibes.

If you stay in Granada make sure to take this day trip to Alpujarras. Once you see these towns you understand better Granada too. The architecture is gorgeous and all the houses are white-wahsed. Our guide took us for a little hike which was a nice way to unwind in nature.

This was a brilliant way to explore the mountain villages of Granada. Our guide was Miguel and he was great, fun and very informative. We had excellent food and wine at a local restaurant too and could fill up our water bottles at the village fountains. Amazing day out in the nature!

We had a truly beautiful day in the mountains. We visited 3 villages each very different from the other and could walk up and down the hilly allies and enjoy the nice mountain air and views. The scenery and the architecture were gorgeous. We are so glad we did this and did not stay in Granada the entire time.
