More information
Ever wondered where you can find The Flintstones? It’s probably here. At the heart of Andalucia, hidden between mountains and sea, lies the lost land of stones.
When we arrive at our first stop, your short and comfortable ride will feel like it was more of a rocket through the centuries. You will have stepped back roughly 6500 years and now stand at the Dolmenes, Europe’s largest megalithic structure. This is a collection of impressive stones, weighing up to 180 tonnes each, that make up a series of elaborate burial sites appearing more like secret passageways and luring caves. Now classed as a UNESCO Human Heritage site, you can enter through the unexpected entrance into the prehistoric hallways – careful of what you may find!
If that wasn’t enough for the senses, it’s on into the national park and to El Torcal. From The Flintstones to outer space, it is hard to believe this unique and amazing karst landscape is not man-made. Millions of years have never been so kind as these rocks appear to have been perfectly eroded. Towers and towers of balancing stones splatter the scene, as if by design. In place way before the hippies thought of it!
Explore this labyrinth of natural art, puzzle over how it stands and learn about where they came from. We will hike through the narrow corridors of stone, the most wild nature and ancient fossils. Find ‘The Screw’ the area’s most majestic stone masterpiece This natural UNESCO site is not to be missed!
Satisfy all the senses with a stop for some tasty lunch. Try the region’s classic soup, ‘porra antequerana’, in true Spanish style this is a tomato base but, with its own twist. There are plenty of warm options or, for the local experience, we can stop and prepare a traditional Andalusian picnic before we begin (not included).
